Yakitate: Freshly Baked

This review is so long overdue, I thought it would be good to post it right before the long weekend. So, if you have plans to eat out, do try this place. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Two weekends ago, my husband and I are figuring out what to have for dinner. It was such a lazy Saturday and definitely one of those days’, when you are craving something, but can’t put your finger on what that is. I’ve been teased about not trying new things by the husband, so I said yes to one of the restaurant suggestions that were thrown at me. Enter “Yakitate” – until today, I’ve never heard of this place. Apparently, I’ve driven past it multiple of times but it has always gone unnoticed.

So, basically, it is located in Al Ghurair, situated on an inner road filled with restaurants and cafes. The bakery is right next to Spinneys and the restaurant is right across the road. It is truly a “hidden” gem. Initially, I wanted to sit at the bakery, but I’m so glad we ended up sitting in the restaurant. The place has a very Japanese-y look with cherry blossoms and all that jazz. The decor is pink and brown giving it a very cozy look and feel to it. I felt like I walked into Hello Kitty’s house *insert LMAO emoji*

Yakitate means Freshly Baked, and fresh they are !! We ordered everything that was highly recommended on Zomato. We started off with drinks, got one Taro [priced at AED17](I can’t comment on that because I didn’t try it) and I ordered myself a Sangria Tea [priced at AED15] and OMG, it was so refreshing and you could taste the Black Assam tea and the mango juice with hints of apples, peaches and lemon. Then, we ordered a Kiri Cream Cheese Doughnut [priced at AED8] and a Curry Donut [priced at AED9]. I didn’t enjoy the Curry as much as the Cream Cheese. It was just shredded meat marinated in spices, which is widely available. However, the cream cheese doughnut was heavenly and baked to perfection. The cheese just melts in your mouth and it was just scrumptious. We even got two more packed to go :p

14455920_10154015642277075_798080609_oFor our main course, we ordered Chicken Yakitori [priced at AED17] from the appertizers. Chicken on skewers glazed with Yakitori sauce. Frankly, it was a bit undercooked but didn’t taste all that bad. We also got one of their famous burgers, Original Ramen Burger [priced at AED28]. It was cut up chicken fillet in between two buns made with ramen noodles. Very creative, very delicious but equally hard to eat. The noodle buns get soft as it gets cold so I had to cut my half in small squares making it easy to grab onto a fork.

Lastly, we ordered their famous baked cheesecake. It is so soft and lighter than air and it comes with a side of caramel sauce. I’m not big on caramel, but it was a good combination with the cheesecake. Perfect ending to a perfect meal.

Everything is reasonably priced. All the main courses are under AED40, appetizers are under AED20 and their wide range of delicious freshly baked goodies are under AED15. How amazing is that. Usually such fancy restaurants are spotted on the other side of town aka “New Dubai”. We need to have more places like this open up in the old part of town.

A big thank you to Zomato – our visit was purely based on your reviews. We couldn’t have ever come across this place if it wasn’t for you guys *thumbs up*
